The Leicester Tigers lock will replace injured Courtney Lawes, who hobbled out of Northampton Saints’ 20-15 win over Saracens on Sunday.

Slater, a former Denbigh student, is no stranger to the England set up, but has never pulled on the jersey. While he has four caps for England Saxons, including captaining the side, Slater missed out on an England appearance in 2013 when he suffered injury in the Premiership final.

Having missed much of the 2014/15 season through injury, Slater was named in Stuart Lancaster’s initial 51 man squad ahead of the Rugby World Cup at the end of last year.
