Who is the most card-happy referee in English football?

Every football fan thinks the referee has it in for their team, but statistically, which of the men in black has proved most likely to reach for his pocket during a match this season?

Darren England, whose eight games have come inLeague One,League Twoand in the Football League Trophy, produced the highest number of cards per game, averaging 5.25 cards per appearance. So far this season, he has produced 40 yellow and two red cards.

Top flight referee Martin Atkinson, who has produced more yellow cards this season (56) than any other official, comes second, averaging 5.09 cautions per game and Trevor Kettle comes in third with an average of five per match.

Graham Salisburyhas dished out more red cards than any other referee this season, having produced five reds in 11 games, almost one every second match.

Statistically least likely to reach for his black book this season isLee Collins, who issued just one yellow card - to Sheffield United’s Kieron Freeman - during his only fixture in charge.
