米K Dons players and fans deserved big win over Bradford after tough times

米ike Williamsonsaid a weight had been lifted off the米K Donsplayers and thesupportersafter their emphatic 4-1 win overBradford Cityon Tuesday night.

Picking up the victory in his second game in charge ended a nine game win-less run inLeague Two, and while it lifts Dons to 16th in the standings from 18th, theperformanceand heavy scoreline showed signs of what might be coming under the new主教练.

Goals from Joe Tomlinson andJack Paynecame either side of an Alex Gilliead strike against the run of play for the Bantams, while second-half goals from Max Dean and Alex Gilbey ensured the win was secured in some style.

It could have been more though as the hosts hit the woodwork four times, and squandered three one-on-ones with Harry Lewis in the Bantams net - the keeper a standout for the visitors as he kept the scoreline civil.

For Williamson, still only three training sessions into his tenure as head coach, the victory signalled the start of something for both his players and the supporters.

He said: “The boys deserve the credit they'll get, but for the fans, it has been really hard. They've been through some tough times, but they will start to see a clear process in place.

“They were fantastic today, we could hear them right from the start, even when Bradford equalised, they were still behind us. I'm really pleased for them.

“The boys were fantastic, played with so much energy and we created so many chances which was really pleasing. But it is mainly from the players, and less about the structure at this stage, and that makes it even more exciting because when we do get those ideas across, it will look even cleaner.

“The boys really deserve that though, they've been working extremely hard. It's been extremely hard, and they deserve this feeling.

“We probably missed the easier chances and scored the harder ones, but that's football. I'm sure a few of the fans were thinking we were going to get a sucker punch again, and that's what we've got to understand.

“It's a convincing result in the end. The structure and detail will come, we'll improve out of possession too. We've got an extremely talented group, it's up to us to find what we can to help and improve them.”
