Disneyland has closed its parks because of coronavirus - here’s what you should know

As coronavirus continues to spread across the globe, everything from sporting events to concerts and conferences are being cancelled.

Disney has announced it will close its parks and cruise lines to guests to limit the spread of the virus, which has now infected more than 135,000 people across the globe.

This is what you need to know about the closures and what to do if you had tickets booked.

Which Disney parks are closed?

Disney has decided to close all of its amusement parks as COVID-19 continues to spread globally. Here are details of some of the major parks closing across the world.

Disneyland Resort, California

Joining the already closed attractions in Tokyo, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park will close on Saturday 14 March and will remain closed until the end of March.

On the Disneyland website, a statement said that the hotels at the resort will remain open until 16 March to “give guests the ability to make necessary travel arrangements”.

For those who have already booked tickets, the company has said it will “work with guests who wish to change or cancel their visits, and will provide refunds to those who have hotel bookings during this closure period”.

Walt Disney World Resort Florida

The theme parks at the resort will be closed from Monday 16 March until the end of March.

The hotels at the resorts and the dining and retail complex, Disney Springs, will remain open.

Unexpired multi-day theme park tickets with unused days or date-specific theme park tickets with a valid use period during the period 12 March 2020 to 31 March 2020 will be extended to use on any date until 15 December 2020.

If you’re unable to visit by December 15 2020, you may apply the value of an unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date.

Guests who have purchased tickets for Disney After Hours, Disney Villains After Hours and Disney Early Morning Magic from March 16 2020 through to March 31 2020 will be automatically refunded.

Disneyland Paris Resort

Disneyland Paris Resort will close on Sunday 15 March and will remain closed until the end of the month.

The hotels at the resort and the retail and dining complex, Disney Village, will remain open.

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line has also issued a travel alert regarding COVID-19, stating that “in the best interests of [their] guests and employees” the Disney Cruise Line has decided to suspend all new departures beginning Saturday 14 March, through to the end of the month.

Given the current situation regarding coronavirus related cancellations, there has been some temporary adjustment to the Disney Cruise Line cancellation policy.

Depending on what cruise you were booked on to will inform how things have changed.

“Guests currently booked on our European sailings through our July 25 departure can change their reservation up until the day before embarkation and receive a 100% cruise credit to be used for future sailing within 15 months of their original sail date,” the statement explains.

It added: “All Guests scheduled to depart on the Disney Magic between now and May 8, 2020, and the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wonder between now and May 31, 2020, can change their reservation up until the day before embarkation and receive a 100% cruise credit to be used for a future sailing within 12 months of their original sail date.”
