A memorial garden is to be opened at a city primary school in memory of a young pupil who tragically passed away.

Neriah Toby was in Year 3 at Brooksward School in Neath Hill, where she was a popular, happy and valued pupil.

She sadly died on Tuesday 28th December 2021, during the school’s Christmas break and a month after her eighth birthday.

A spokesperson for Brookwards said: “Her passing was incredibly sudden and has been a devastating shock for her family and our school community.

"However, we were heartened to hear what a lovely time Neriah had spent with her family, celebrating Christmas, in the days up to this and how happy and enthusiastic she was in everything she was doing.

“Neriah had been at Brooksward for less than a year but you would not have known it. Right from the start, she settled into Brooksward life, putting tremendous effort into her work and impressing her teachers, as well as making long-lasting friendships by showing her kind and caring nature. “

The school, the local community andKids Play MKhave been working together with local companyGolden Gardensfor some time on developing a new Wild Garden, where children will have a safe space to take part in more outdoor learning, including Forest School.

The garden incorporates a special area that is a memorial for Neriah.

Now almost complete, the tribute garden is due to be officially open next month. It is described as a haven for learning, joy, and memory, designed to enrich children's lives for years to come.
