Latest figures show over 95% of rapes and sex crimes in Milton Keynes region happen to women

Statistics from the open crime database highlights just how much more vulnerable women are to these attacks.

Figures of crimes reported in Milton Keynes' region backup these fears, showing women are much more likely to be attacked.

The total number of rapes recorded in the region over a 12 month period was 1,538, 1,462 of the victims were female, 76 rapes were suffered by men.

Women are raped in Thames Valley at a ratio of 19.2 cases to one compared to men. In the Thames Valley on average four rape cases involving a female victim are reported every day.

Women are raped at a rate of 60.4 cases per 100,000 people in the region..

Females are also much more likely to be the victims of sexual assaults in the area. Over the same 12-month period 87.2% of victims of sexual assault were women. Like rape, four cases of sexual assault are reported in the Thames Valley every day.

The latest figures show 1,459 cases of sexual assault were reported involving women and 214 involving men. The rate of sexual assaults with a female victim in the Thames Valley was 60.3 per 100,00 people.

Nationally it is a very similar story, 6.3 times as many women are sexually assaulted than men, with women making up 86% of cases.

A woman is assaulted on average 103 times per day. When it comes to rape, female cases outnumber male cases 15 to one, with women making up 94% of recorded crimes. A woman is also raped 103 times per day.
